Week 5 – Fall 2026
LIFE GROUPS – WEEK 5
SERMON – Justice Coleman
ICE BREAKER:
What’s a gift you’ve received that meant a lot to you? What made it special?
SCRIPTURE:
2 Corinthians 9:6–8 NLT
6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”[a] 8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
Luke 6:46-49 NLT
46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? 47 I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49 But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”
Proverbs 3:9–10 NIV
Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
- Read 2 Corinthians 9:6–8. What does Paul say about how we should give and the attitude we should have?
- Read Luke 6:46–49. Why is obedience to God a deeper expression of worship than praising Him with our words alone?
- Read Proverbs 3:9–10. What does giving God our “firstfruits” communicate about our priorities and trust in Him?
- What area of your life is God not first in? What do you need to reorient in your life so God could be first?
Next Steps & Prayer
- Ask God to show you one specific step of generosity or obedience, and make a plan to follow through. Tell your Life Group to be accountable and pray for each other to put God first this week.
