LG VIDEO – WEEK 4  – 05:03 MINUTES

FULL SERMON – How to Overcome Anxiety – 42:37 MIN

DISCUSSION:

  • Pastor Justice said, “Your past will not dictate your future.” Have you let your past negatively affect you before?
  • Share your notes from the teaching, what impacted you? Was there a moment you sensed the Holy Spirit?

SCRIPTURE

“The farmer plants seed by taking God’s word to others. 15 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan come at once and take it away. 16 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. 17 But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. 18 The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, 19 but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced. 20 And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” Mark 4:14-20 NLT

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NIV

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:6-8 NLT

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18 NIV

UNcomplicate it:

Observation Question:
What do you observe about the passages? Take turns sharing from observations from the text or your personal notes from service.

Understanding Question:

  • When is anxiety healthy? What is it signaling us to do?

Application Question:

  • Pastor Justice shared about his previous struggles with OCD routines that temporarily brought him peace. Are there any things you do to bring you peace instead of going to the prince of peace, Jesus?
  • Fear of the future robs you of a present joy. What fears and worries do you need to surrender to God?

Before Next Week:

  • Pick someone to share next week from their Life Journal to kick off the group discussion. We created this 2 min video on how to S.O.A.P. that we recommend for everyone to watch.
