SCRIPTURE
Luke 7:11-16 NLT
11 Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him. 12 A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. 14 Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.”15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
16 Great fear swept the crowd, and they praised God, saying, “A mighty prophet has risen among us,” and “God has visited his people today.”
Ephesians 2:1-5 NLT
Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. 4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)
UNcomplicate it:
Observation Question:
What do you observe about the passages? Take turns sharing from observations from the text or your personal notes from service.
Understanding Question:
When Jesus visited the small village of Nain, his disciples and a following crowd met a funeral procession. What do you think this experience was like?
Application Question:
The widow in the village of Nain was likely experiencing loss, heartbreak and financial need, and the Lord had compassion on her. Have you ever been or are currently in a similar situation? Pray for one another.
