LIFE GROUPS – WEEK 4

FULL SERMON – 32 MINUTES

ICE BREAKER:

If you had a full day of quiet solitude (no work, no phone), what would you do?

SCRIPTURE:

 Matthew 17:1–8 NIV

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

KEEP IT UNCOMPLICATED:

Discussion Questions

  1. Mark 1:35 NIV says “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” What does this tell us about the intentionality of time spent with God?
  2. Psalm 46:10 NIV tells us: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” When was a time that stillness revealed something in you that was hiding behind noise and distractions?
  3. Which of these three barriers do you relate to most right now — and why? Share a moment when one of these kept you from being fully present with God.
    • Busyness: Always on the go, hard to slow down.
    • Easily Distracted: Phone, work, kids, constant noise.
    • Discomfort of Being Alone: Stillness feels awkward or empty.

Group Challenge: “One Chapter, One Text”
This week, let’s commit as a Life Group to:

  • Spend time with God every day.
  • Read one chapter of the Bible each day.
  • Text the group the verse that stood out to you.

✅ Keep it short.
✅ Don’t preach — just share what hit you.
✅ Cheer each other on!

Reflection & Prayer

Invite everyone to take a short moment of silence together, 30 seconds to 1 minute, just breathing and inviting God’s presence.

Then, pray together, asking God:

  • to teach us to be intentionally still before God.
  • to quiet our hearts so we can hear His voice.
  • to find rest in His presence.
  • to reveal to us what in us needs healing and peace.
