LG VIDEO – WEEK 7 – 02:54 MINUTES
FULL SERMON – 35:49 MINUTES
ICE BREAKER:
- Zacchaeus had a clear “before and after” moment in his life with Jesus. Share a time when you experienced a significant shift in your faith, having a before and after in your life.
SCRIPTURE:
Luke 19:1-10 NLT
Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town. 2 There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich. 3 He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way.
5 When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”
6 Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. 7 But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled.
8 Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!”
9 Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
UNcomplicate it:
Observation Questions
- How does Zacchaeus’ response to Jesus demonstrates his repentance?
- What does true repentance look like in your life, and how does it reflect a genuine desire to follow Jesus?
Understanding Questions
- Zacchaeus’ story highlights how Jesus extended grace, even though others judged him. Have you ever felt judged by others for your past mistakes, or perhaps judged others for theirs? How does understanding Zacchaeus’ story change the way you view others and yourself?
- Can you think of a time when you struggled with the lie that you were a hypocrite following Jesus? How does the way Jesus sees Zacchaeus show you how God sees you?
Application Questions
- Zacchaeus’ repentance was visible through his actions—he promised to give back what he had taken. Is there something in your life that God is calling you to make right or change?
- Jesus came to seek and save the lost, as He did with Zacchaeus. Is there someone in your life who you see as “lost” or far from God? Who in your life needs to hear your before and after story?
Action Steps
- Practice sharing your testimony! Your before and after story brings glory to God. A great testimony starts with a story of how God changed you, and ends with “if God can do it for me, God can do it for you!”
- Encourage each other, pray for one another, and commit to reading the Bible this week.
