LG VIDEO – WEEK #2  – 07:23 MINUTES

FULL SERMON – Let The Dead Bury Their Own Dead | – 36:20 MINUTES

DISCUSSION:

  • Share your notes from the teaching, what impacted you? Was there a moment you sensed the Holy Spirit?

SCRIPTURE

Matthew 13:3 NIV

“A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

The hard path

Matthew 13:8

“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.

The shallow dirt

Matthew 13:20

The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

The thorny soil

Matthew 13:22

The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

UNcomplicate it:

Observation Question:

  • Jesus made up an illustration about a farmer, seed and 3 types of soil. What do each represent and how does this apply to our life today?

Understanding Question:

  • How does a hard heart keep people from trusting and obeying?
  • How does shallow faith (rocky soil) keep people from growing?
  • How can “worries about life and the deceitfulness of wealth” threaten someone’s faith?

Application Question:

  • What condition is your heart in lately? Is the Holy Spirit inviting you somewhere that requires a new level of faith? Any areas of your life that you keep hesitating, but you know you need to make a decision? Share with each other and pray for faith and courage.

“Let the dead, bury the dead.” – JC

Homework:

  • Your testimony of victory is powerful! How has God helped you overcome struggles? Invite members of the group to share a 5 minute encouraging testimony each week. Ask for volunteers and direct them to the resource page for a short video to help them prepare. Each testimony should be no longer than 5 minutes and end with “If He can do this for me, He can do this for you.”  CLICK HERE

Alternative:

  • Pick one the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) to read this week individually. One chapter a day and highlight favorite one-liners from Jesus to
